This spring, instructors from Rice University’s Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education joined ExxonMobil for the Tapia STEM CCS project teacher training in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Nine teachers representing all Ascension Parish public middle schools participated in the full-day training in advance of this summer’s enrichment programs for Ascension Parish students grade 6-8.

From that training, more than 400 students and educators across nine middle schools in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, got the full Tapia CCS STEM Camp experience. This was the first ever on-site K-12 STEM CCS Camp held directly with a school district in the U.S.

Ascension Parish in Louisiana is at the epicenter of new lower-carbon infrastructure investments helping industrial consumers reduce emissions. More than 1,000 students and educators participated this summer in the ExxonMobil-sponsored Tapia STEM CCS camps in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
