Pore Space and Storage Rights

In Louisiana, the underground pore space — about a mile deep — is typically owned by the surface owner.

  • For a project to move forward, we work with pore space owners to grant us storage rights in exchange for fair, market-based compensation.
  • The potential to have CO2 safely stored thousands of feet under their land provides pore space owners with a new income opportunity.
  • Although Louisiana’s unitization laws allow projects to proceed once a certain percentage of landowners agree, our initial goal is to reach mutually beneficial agreements with everyone.
A Bridge

Respect for Louisiana Landowners

Many of our team members live and work in the same communities where we operate. We understand the deep connection Louisianians have with their land, and we are committed to:

  • Treating landowners with utmost respect
  • Conducting all discussions in good faith
  • Sharing clear information about landowner rights, our project plans and regulations governing both
  • Explaining the science behind CO2 storage, its benefits and our proven safety practices

Open Dialogue

We encourage all landowners to:

  • Carefully evaluate our offers
  • Request additional information to help their families make informed decisions
  • Share questions or concerns openly — we are ready to listen and respond

Our agents have already reached out to thousands of landowners across multiple states to discuss our carbon capture and storage projects. They are trained to interact in good faith and with respect. If any landowner feels otherwise, we will address the issue quickly and fairly.
